Why Doubt

Why Doubt

Introduction: One of the greatest sins you can commit is the sin of unbelief.  So many people doubt God’s promises yet they say they trust Him.  We are going to share some principles about this subject with you at this time.  The definition of doubt is; absence of belief or lack of faith.  Yet the word of God teaches us in 2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight: ) and Romans 1:17  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.   So you see their really is no room for doubt in a Christians life.  Please pay attention to the following scriptures and let them change your life. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

1) We doubt because we fear. (Why?)
*Matthew 8:24-27 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
*Matthew 14:22-32 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.  And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
*2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
*Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
*Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

2) We doubt because we waver. (Why?)
*James 1:5-8   If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
*Hebrews Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
*Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

3) We doubt because we do not take God’s Word to heart (Why?)
*Romans So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
*John 5:24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
*2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
*Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

4) We doubt when we know it is wrong to have unbelief in our Christian life. (Why?)
*Matthew And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
*Matthew 17:20  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
*Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
*Hebrews So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Conclusion; We have gave you just a few scriptures to ponder on about doubt or unbelief.  Please take God’s word for it.  He wants us to have faith.   Remember   Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.  Let his word get into you and change you.  John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.  And remember Romans So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
